Voices Across ACOI: MarkAlain Déry, DO, MPH, FACOI
What does a shocking first fishing trip have in common with treating infectious diseases? For MarkAlain Déry, DO, MPH, FACOI, it’s as simple as compassion. An osteopathic physician board-certified in infectious disease and internal medicine, as well as an ACOI board member and member of the PRIDE Committee, Dr. Déry’s career keeps him close to the natural tendencies that first drew him to medicine. The aforementioned trip was not the sole catalyst, but it played a significant role.
At ACOI 2025, one of the two inspiring keynote speakers who will present is Simon T. Bailey, MBA. The award-winning speaker, coach, and author is passionate about encouraging people to harness their strengths, find resilience from setbacks, and build meaningful lives.
Physicians commit to a career fueled by serving others. What does it mean to integrate that experience into public service? Over the past several months, Zachary West, DO, FACOI, has been finding out for himself. An osteopathic internal medicine physician and longtime ACOI member, Dr. West had the unique achievement of, in 2024, being elected to the office of coroner in Seneca County, Ohio. Dr. West was already accustomed to serving his community as the owner of a local direct primary care practice; he considered this simply a new way to continue doing the same.
In recent years, it’s become clear how important it is to connect with others and create community. Making those connections requires making an effort, but doing so can lead to greater well-being and fulfillment. Jasper Yung, DO, FACOI, is an internal and emergency medicine specialist who understands this in-depth, thanks to the time he spends not just in service to patients, but to his community as a whole.
