ACOI Recognizes Recipients of 2026 David Susser, DO, MACOI Award

The American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI), a national professional organization representing osteopathic internal medicine physicians and subspecialists, has selected eight awardees to receive the 2026 David Susser, DO, MACOI Award. The recipients will be recognized at ACOI 2026 in Indian Wells, California.

Established in 2024, this award honors the legacy of David Susser, DO, MACOI, who consistently demonstrated integrity, compassion, generosity of time and spirit, and commitment to quality in his personal and professional life. Dr. Susser was a pioneer of sub-specialization within the osteopathic internal medicine community. Dr. Susser was a true lover of the arts, humanities, and community. This award recognizes physicians who demonstrate similar traits as Dr. Susser.

The award recognizes candidates who demonstrate and excel in the following qualities: 

• Commitment to excellence and integrity;
• Sense of compassion and care for others;
• Resilience and how they have overcome adversity; 
• Academic performance and commitment to quality; and
• Generosity of spirit and commitment to community and self-improvement.

The following physicians will be honored with the 2026 David Susser, DO, MACOI Award:

Mitchell Boshkos, DO. Dr. Boshkos is an internal medicine resident at Baylor College of Medicine. He is part of the MD Anderson Cancer Center Track in Houston, Texas, and completed medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton, Florida.

Ahmad Fouad Chaban, DO. Dr. Chaban is a resident physician in internal medicine at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed medical school at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Louisiana.

Alexander Douglas, DO. Dr. Douglas is an internal medicine resident at Oklahoma State University Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also currently serving as a chief resident and is an inaugural member of their Medical Education Track. He completed medical school at Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences.

Michele Guyette, DO. Dr. Guyette is currently pursuing a nephrology fellowship at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. Dr. Guyette completed her internal medicine residency at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in June 2026; she completed medical school at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Alyssa Lambrecht, DO. Dr. Lambrecht is an internal medicine resident at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. She is part of the Primary Care Track and is also pursuing a Residents as Teachers Certificate, as well as a Population Health Graduate Certificate through the University of Kentucky College of Public Health. Dr. Lambrecht completed medical school at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Batoul Sadek, DO. Dr. Sadek is an internal medicine resident with a focus on pediatrics at MetroHealth Hospital/Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio. She is also part of the Longitudinal Clinical Skills Program at MetroHealth Hospital/Case Western University. Dr. Sadek completed medical school at University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Brooklynn Scherer, DO. Dr. Scherer is currently pursuing a hospice and palliative medicine fellowship at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. She completed her internal medicine residency at Kettering Health Dayton, where she was chief resident from 2025 to 2026. Dr. Scherer completed medical school at Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Aliyah Stephens, DO. Dr. Stephens is an internal medicine resident at Inspira Health in Mullica Hill, New Jersey. She completed medical school at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine – Middletown, New York.
