Dr. Kellee Randle’s talk through the ACOI Visiting Professor Program made a powerful impression on our Internal Medicine Interest Group. From the moment she began speaking, she created an atmosphere of openness and genuine curiosity, inviting students to explore the wide spectrum of paths within internal medicine. She highlighted the versatility of the field (hospital medicine, primary care, subspecialties, academic medicine, research) and emphasized how each pathway offers unique opportunities to build meaningful relationships with those around you. Through sharing her personal journey in medicine, we were able to see a first-hand experience of how you can find your niche and it may not be what you once thought it would be.
She also focused on the importance of preventing burnout, a topic she approached with honesty and compassion. Dr. Randle discussed the realities of medical training while also providing us practical strategies to protect our mental health, maintain purpose, and cultivate joy in the work that we do. She encouraged us to prioritize balance, seek mentorship, and stay connected to the reasons we chose medicine in the first place. Her perspective helped normalize conversations about physician wellness and gave the group valuable tools we can carry into our careers.
Overall, the talk left our club feeling motivated and more confident about pursuing internal medicine. We appreciated her straightforward, informative talk and found the session helpful in shaping our perspective on the specialty. It sparked new interest and reinforced enthusiasm for our futures in internal medicine!
