
In a column written for “The DO Book Club,” part of the online magazine of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), The DO, Tim Barreiro, DO, MPH, MACOI, highlighted the legacy of Arthur Bouier, DO, MACOI. The piece touched upon how Dr. Bouier was featured in the 2020 book “Blacks in Osteopathic Medicine: An Idea Whose Time Has Come” by Darnita Anderson Hill, DO. Dr. Hill’s book combines narrative biography with thematic exposition to explore the lives and legacies of several noteworthy Black osteopathic physicians. Dr. Bouier, according to the column, is featured for his history as “a pioneering Black osteopathic internist...recognized for his leadership and mentorship within the American College of Osteopathic Internists.” Congratulations to Dr. Barreiro on this piece, and to Dr. Bouier on this recognition!

Joseph Giaimo, DO, MACOI, received the 2026 Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) Lifetime Achievement Award. This honor is given to an osteopathic physician who has made a significant contribution to the osteopathic community over the span of his or her lifetime. Congratulations, Dr. Giaimo!

Thomas Mohr, DO, MACOI, was invited to provide testimony to the U.S. House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Health during a hearing focused on strengthening America’s healthcare workforce. Dr. Mohr highlighted the bipartisan Fair Access in Residency (FAIR) Act and how osteopathic medical education plays a major role in increasing access to healthcare in underserved and rural communities. At the New York State Osteopathic Medical Society (NYSOMS) 2026 Regional Osteopathic Convention – New York, held March 12-13, 2026, in Long Island, New York, Richard Thacker, DO, MACOI, will be featured as a keynote speaker. Kenneth Steier, DO, FACOI, and Michael Foti, DO, FACOI, will be featured as speakers in their respective sessions “Improving Medical Student Wellness” and “OMT for the Busy Internist.” Congratulations and best of luck to Dr. Thacker, Dr. Steier, and Dr. Foti!
Dr. Thacker also received the 2026 Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA) Distinguished Service Award. One of the organization’s annual awards, the Distinguished Service Award goes to an individual with outstanding accomplishments in science, professionalism, osteopathic education, or service to the osteopathic profession or citizens of Florida at state or national level. It is considered the highest honor that FOMA can bestow upon an individual. Congratulations, Dr. Thacker!
Dr. Foti was also invited to serve on the Scholarships & Awards Committee of the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) for the 2026 calendar year. This committee plays a pivotal role in overseeing AOF’s scholarships, grants, and professional recognition awards, all of which help advance the organization’s mission and the growth of osteopathic medicine. Congratulations to Dr. Foti on this honor!

Kardie Tobb, DO, FACOI, was recently published in the digital journal Current Hypertension Reports along with Rachel M. Bond, Vikramjit Purewal, Natalie Cameron, Demilade Adedinsewo, Ijeoma Isiadinso and Kameelah Phillips. The study, “Hypertension in Women Across the Life Cycle: Unique Aspects and Challenges,” provides a review of hypertension in adult women and highlights stage-specific risk factors, clinical considerations, and opportunities for prevention and management.
Dr. Tobb was also featured on a news segment on local station WFMY News 2 in Greensboro, North Carolina, and spoke about why heart disease disproportionately impacts Black adults and what steps people can take to protect their heart health. Congratulations on both accomplishments, Dr. Tobb!
