
Andrea Amalfitano, DO, PhD, was featured in a news story published by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) about his work in gene- and immune-based therapies. As one of the first graduates of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine’s DO-PhD pathway program, Dr. Amalfitano has become one of only a handful of board-certified DO clinical geneticists today, allowing him to shape evidence-based care for patients even beyond his clinical practice. Thomas Cavalieri, DO, MACOI, FACP, AGSF, was presented with the Medal of Excellence award at the Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine commencement ceremony. Dr. Cavalieri was honored for his transformative leadership and longstanding contributions to osteopathic medicine and medical education. Presented by Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs Joshua Coren, the award recognized Cavalieri’s role in guiding the institution’s evolution, expanding medical education opportunities and advancing geriatric care throughout the region. Humayan “Hank” Chaudhry, DO, MACOI, MS, served as the commencement speaker for Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine at the school’s campuses in Utah and Colorado. He spoke about “the importance of treating the whole patient, of the wonders and dangers of AI, and the need to help society and not just the patients you see at the bedside.” Dr. Chaudhry was also granted an honorary degree. MarkAlain Déry, DO, FACOI, MPH, was recently published in the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine. His article, “21st century osteopathic medicine: a modern perspective,” is focused on the importance of integrating contemporary scientific advances and ethical imperatives into the future of osteopathic medicine. Karen J. Nichols, DO, MA, MACOI, MACP, FAMWA, CS-F, presented the commencement address at California Health Sciences University (CHSU). As the Chair Emeritus for the CHSU Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, Dr. Nichols spoke about how important it is to have good communication, always do one's best, and be sincere while taking care of patients.
