September Student of the Month: Weston Stokey, OMS-IV

ACOI recognizes osteopathic medical students who are outstanding members of their medical schools and communities with the Student of the Month Recognition Program.

Please join us in congratulating the September winner: Weston Stokey, OMS-IV, Burrell College of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine.

Student Doctor Stokey was nominated in recognition of his outstanding service and commitment to his school, community, and osteopathic internal medicine. His involvement has included serving as a didactic tutor at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine; as Poster Session Chair for the 2025 Society of Toxicology Annual Meeting and ToxExpo; and Vice President of the Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine SOIMA chapter from March 2024 to April 2025. Student Doctor Stokey also earned his Master of Public Health (with a concentration in Urban Health) from the University of Memphis in August 2021.
 

Meet Weston Stokey

What is your hometown?
Sutherland, Nebraska.

What is your education?
I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with double minor in Business and Criminal Justice from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and then afterwards discovered I wanted to go to medical school. I then completed a post-baccalaureate from the same university. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I completed a Masters in Public Health and then worked for state HIV program before medical school. I am a current fourth year at Burrell College of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine.

What are your hobbies?
I enjoy scuba diving, hiking, biking, going to the movie theater, and playing with my two pugs. During/after residency, I want to become certified in rescue, shipwreck, and nighttime diving.

What are three things people may not know about you?

• I got my two front teeth kicked out in first grade, and then for the holiday program that year we sang “All I Want for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth.”
• I am a big fan of Shark Week, so the first thing I did after being PADI scuba certified was dive with sharks.
• I was a background actor for the movie The Protector (2026) during medical school.

How has ACOI helped you in your education so far?
ACOI has been extremely impactful in my medical school education. Starting with supporting my time on the editorial board of BCSOM SOIMA to offering research opportunities to providing a litany of supplemental lectures that are applicable throughout our entire journey of medical school. I cannot thank the ACOI enough for their continued support and guidance.

Do you have an idea of what specialty you would like to go into?
My goal is to complete a gastroenterology fellowship.
