The Power of Showing Up—In Palm Springs

Fellow Colleagues and Members of ACOI,
In a profession that increasingly asks us to move faster and do more with less time together, it is worth pausing to remember what cannot be replicated through a screen: the power of showing up in person.
There is something meaningful that happens when we gather—when conversations unfold face to face, when ideas are exchanged freely, and when colleagues at different stages of their careers connect not by chance, but by choice. These moments renew us. They remind us why we chose internal medicine, why we remain committed to osteopathic principles, and why professional community still matters.
That is why I am so looking forward to gathering with you at ACOI 2026 in Palm Springs this October.
The Annual Convention is more than an educational meeting. It is an opportunity to reconnect with one another, and with the shared purpose that defines ACOI. It is where learning becomes dialogue, mentorship happens organically, and professional relationships grow stronger through genuine human connection. From the lecture hall to informal conversations between sessions, this is where our community comes to life.
For students and residents, the Annual Convention can be a moment of inspiration and belonging. For early‑career internists, it offers perspective and connection. For seasoned physicians, it is a chance to share wisdom, renew purpose, and help shape what comes next. For all of us, it is a reminder that we do this work better—and with greater joy—when we do it together.
In Palm Springs, we will gather to learn, to reflect, and to look ahead. We will celebrate excellence in education and practice, engage in meaningful discussions about the future of our profession, and reaffirm the values that unite us as osteopathic internists. Just as importantly, we will reconnect as colleagues and friends.
If it has been a while since you attended the Annual Convention in person, I encourage you to consider this your invitation. Step away from the screen. Join us in conversation. Bring your experiences, your questions, and your voice. Your presence matters, both to ACOI and to the community we serve.
ACOI is strongest when its members show up—not only to learn, but to lead, to listen, and to support one another. I look forward to doing exactly that with you in Palm Springs.
I hope to see you there.
Fraternally,
Damon
