Meet Hannah Areechira
What is your hometown?
Monroe, New York.
What is your education?
I earned my undergraduate degree from Binghamton University and subsequently completed my Master of Science degree at Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, Middletown. I am currently an OMS-II at TouroCOM Montana.
What are your hobbies?
I enjoy traveling, spending time with family and friends, and exploring new places and restaurants. I am also an Indian classical dancer, which has been a meaningful part of my life and a creative outlet for me.
What are three things people may not know about you?
- I was born in Kerala, India.
- I will be the first doctor and the first osteopathic physician in my family.
- Before starting medical school, I worked as an emergency department scribe for two years and as a dermatology and Mohs surgery medical assistant for a year.
How has ACOI helped you in your education so far?
ACOI has given me the opportunity to become more involved in internal medicine beyond the classroom and connect with physicians and students who share my interest in the field. This year, I had the opportunity to help establish and affiliate our Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG) at TouroCOM Montana with ACOI, and I currently serve as the President of TouroCOM Montana SOIMA student chapter. Through this involvement, I have been able to develop my leadership skills, connect with physicians and other medical students, and learn more about the many career paths within internal medicine. ACOI has also encouraged me to become more involved in research, professional development, and opportunities that have helped me grow as a medical student.
Do you have an idea of what specialty you would like to go into?
I am currently very interested in Internal Medicine and am keeping an open mind as I continue through my medical education. Within Internal Medicine, I am particularly interested in Pulmonology and Infectious Disease, as well as hospitalist and critical care medicine. I enjoy learning about complex medical conditions and the broad range of patients and problems encountered within Internal Medicine. I look forward to exploring these interests further as I progress through my clinical training and gain more exposure to different areas of medicine.
