New Bill Limits Rx Prior Authorizations

A new bill introduced by Reps. Julie Johnson (D-TX) and Mike Kennedy (R-UT) would limit prescription drug prior authorizations used by Medicare Advantage and stand-alone Part D plans to once per year for patients with autoimmune diseases or blood disorders. A press release announcing introduction of the “Patient Access to Autoimmune Treatments Act” (H.R. 5467) included an endorsement of the bill from ACOI. The legislation also ensures coverage of autoimmune and blood disorder prescription drugs.
