Hello everyone!

As we begin a new year, many of us are returning to rotations and coursework with fresh goals and renewed focus, while also stepping back into the rhythm of medical school life. Wherever you are in your training, I hope you take a moment to reflect on how far you have come and what you hope to grow into this year.

The start of a new year often comes with motivation and momentum, but it can also feel overwhelming as responsibilities quickly stack up again. This is also when intentional progress begins. It happens in the quiet moments of understanding, when concepts begin to connect, and when patient interactions remind you why this path matters.

As you move through this month, I encourage you to:

Give yourself grace. Struggling does not mean you are behind. It means you are learning something hard.

Lean on your people. Classmates, residents, mentors, and friends are part of your support system.

Hold onto your why. Let this new year be guided by purpose rather than pressure.

As your Region IV Representative, I want you to know that I am right here with you. I'm learning alongside you and navigating the same challenges. It is a privilege to serve a community of students who continue to support one another and grow together through every stage of training.

Wishing you a strong start to the year and steady growth in the months ahead.

With encouragement and support,

Heavin Oh, OMS-III
