Hello SOIMA members!

As we begin another exciting year, I want to say just how thrilled I am to reconnect with all of you. Whether you’re starting your first didactic year, navigating clinical rotations, or preparing for residency applications, every stage is filled with opportunities to grow, learn, and deepen your passion for internal medicine.

To our first-year students, congratulations on making it this far! Keep leaning into your curiosity, ask questions boldly, and remember that you belong here. To our upper-year students, your clinical experiences and leadership continue to shape not just your journey but the community around you. May this semester bring you meaningful patient encounters, stronger connections, and momentum toward your goals.

A few things to remember as we navigate this new year: Take care of yourself! Balance is a skill and sleep, nutrition, movement, and rest are essential tools for success. Build a community and seek mentors and support from your peers! Lastly, lead with compassion; let empathy guide your interactions with patients and colleagues.

What SOIMA offers:
As part of the Student Osteopathic Internal Medicine Association, you have access to resources designed to support you academically, professionally, and personally, from national networking to educational events and leadership opportunities. Our aim is to connect you with peers and opportunities that help you thrive this semester and beyond.

Cheers to a semester filled with growth, learning, connection, and purpose. This community exists because of each of you, your stories, your resilience, and your commitment to becoming the best physician you can be. You got this!

With support and encouragement,

Laura Carlson, OMS III
