Letter from the SOIMA Region I Representative

Hi everyone!
I hope this message finds you settling into the rhythm of the semester, whether that means mastering your anatomy practicals, navigating your clinical rotations, or preparing your residency applications. Wherever you are in your journey, know that you are part of an institution that understands the challenges, celebrates the milestones, and believes deeply in your potential to grow through both.
What I love most about internal medicine is how it connects everything—science and storytelling, logic and empathy, reasoning and reflection. Every patient you meet and every question you ask adds another layer to who you are becoming as a future physician.
As we approach the halfway point of the academic year, I encourage you to:
- Stay curious. Every patient, lecture, and late-night study session offers a chance to see the field of medicine with fresh eyes.
- Find your community. Lean on your classmates, mentors, and regional peers. Collaboration makes the journey lighter and more meaningful.
- Lead with purpose. Internal medicine thrives on inquiry and compassion. Carry both into every room you enter.
As your Region I Representative, I am here to help strengthen the ties that connect our chapters across the US Northeast—including, but not limited to, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maine, and New York. Together, we can build spaces where mentorship, collaboration, and authentic support flourish.
So, here’s to another season of growth and discovery. You are exactly where you are meant to be, and I cannot wait to see all that you will accomplish, now and beyond.
With gratitude and optimism,
Ananya Devarajan, OMS-II
