ACOI recognizes osteopathic medical students who are outstanding members of their medical schools and communities with the Student of the Month Recognition Program.
Please join us in congratulating the May winner: Margaret Jeng, OMS-II, Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine - Florida.
Student Doctor Jeng was nominated in recognition of her outstanding service and commitment to her school, community, and osteopathic internal medicine.
Student Doctor Jeng has many ways in which she lives out leadership, service, and community engagement. As a second-year medical student at Burrell College of Osteopathic Medicine, she is involved with its SOIMA chapter, including by serving as President from January 2025 to April 2026. She also helped establish the school's Student Osteopathic Medicine Association (SOMA), and served as its Vice President over the course of last year. In that role, she started a Pre-SOMA chapter at Burrell's affiliated university to help facilitate undergraduate students' interest in medicine, and contributed to a major collaboration with a national committee working on multi-institutional research. Student Doctor Jeng also regularly gives her time as a teaching assistant in the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) Lab, a member of the Student Life Committee, and a peer tutor.
Student Doctor Jeng's clinical experiences show a strong sense of initiative and collaboration. She has been involved in several poster presentations, including research on the osteopathic treatment of gout which was awarded first place at the 2026 Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO) A. Hollis Wolfe Competition. She also took on a role at the Cleveland Clinic as a clinical research coordinator after her undergraduate years, as part of a team who received two Cleveland Clinic Excellence Awards.
As a contributing member of her local and medical school communities, Student Doctor Jeng combines her practical expertise with meaningful causes. She takes part in organizing free community health screenings in Melbourne, Florida, to improve local access to preventative care. She also volunteers with Promise for Brevard to help young adults with disabilities build life skills, and in the past founded and worked with the Student Life Committee at Burrell to advocate for students' well-being on-campus.
Student Doctor Jeng exemplifies the ideals of the osteopathic internal medicine community. Her combination of service, leadership, academic engagement, and professionalism reflects a deep commitment to patient care and lifelong learning.

What is your education?
B.S. from University of Florida, Gainesville, FL; and M.S. from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH.
What are your hobbies?
Running and working out – I ran my first half marathon earlier this year, and am trying to get my first pull-up! I’m also really into music, so I love finding new songs and making playlists for my friends.
What are three things people may not know about you?
- I bartended through college and my master’s to help pay for school.
- I love fostering dogs – I had one foster with PTSD and a broken leg who’s now living her best life with an elderly couple who adore her and still send me updates!
- I broke a rib the first time I snowboarded.
How has ACOI helped you in your education so far?
ACOI really supported me in building our student internal medicine chapter on our new campus. This has given us the chance to bring in guest speakers, learn about different subspecialties, and give exposure to students interested in pursuing internal medicine. ACOI also supported us in attending the annual conference where we got to further explore the field and build meaningful connections with peers and mentors that continue to be an excellent support system for us as medical students.
Do you have an idea of what specialty you would like to go into?
Internal medicine, with an interest in GI, cardiology or ICU. I love how internal medicine is like solving a complex puzzle, and I would like something procedural as well. But I'm keeping an open mind while I go into clinicals!
