House Lawmakers Push for Transparency of Health Care Ownership

by ACOI

June 16, 2026

On June 10, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health held a hearing on increasing health care transparency. Both Republicans and Democrats called for transparency of ownership of health care entities, citing the “corporate take over” of health care, including the acquisition of physician practices, hospitals and other entities by private equity.

Among the bills that were the focus of the hearing included one that would require physician-owned practices with more than 25 physicians and physician practices owned by other entities, including private equity, to report information about their business and ownership structure, as well as data on mergers, acquisitions, and changes in ownership.
