ACOI has joined the osteopathic community in a statement reaffirming a commitment to unimpeded access to care for all individuals. The statement follows reports of immigration enforcement activity in and around hospitals and emergency rooms and concerns that patients will avoid treatment. The statement reads:
“The osteopathic profession believes that access to care is a fundamental cornerstone of patient well-being and public health.
Joined by 55 Divisional Societies and Specialty Colleges, the AOA reaffirms its commitment to unimpeded access to healthcare for all individuals, whether it be in-person or through telehealth. Access to routine care and emergency care services should never be compromised. Ensuring that our patients can seek medical care in environments where they feel safe seeking treatment, free from barriers that impede access to lifesaving services is essential.
As physicians, we adhere to our osteopathic oath of being ever vigilant in aiding in the general welfare of the community and being mindful always of our great responsibility to preserve the health and life of our patients.”
