by ACOI

April 14, 2026

ACOI has endorsed the Senate companion of the Community Training, Education, and Access for Medical Students Act (Community TEAMS Act) (S. 3989), which was introduced by Senators John Curtis (R-UT) and Angus King (I-ME) in March. The bill was introduced in the House last year as H.R. 3885.

ACOI members can advocate for the legislation by asking members of Congress to cosponsor the bill. Take action through the ACOI Action Center where a template message is available that can be personalized.

The legislation gives the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) the authority to issue grants to expand the availability of community-based medical training in rural and underserved areas. Entities eligible for grants could include a consortium of one or more osteopathic or allopathic medical schools and a rural health clinic, a federally qualified health center, and/or a health care facility located in a medically underserved community.
