Physicians Have Until April 15 to Apply for 2023 MIPS Exception

Physicians have until April 15 to request a 2023 Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) Extreme and Uncontrollable Circumstances exception due to the Change Healthcare cyberattack. The exception is not automatic and requires physicians to apply. Physicians or practices can request reweighting for any or all MIPS performance categories. For example, a small practice that does its own billing and submits its own MIPS data but focused resources on workarounds to get claims submitted as a result of the cyberattack would be eligible to apply. If a physician or practice wants to be scored on the 2023 MIPS Program, the extended deadline to submit data remains April 15.
