Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Training

Available for in-person attendees only, ACOI is thrilled to offer eight (8) two-hour POCUS trainings during #ACOI2022. In collaboration with the Point-of-Care Ultrasound Certification Academy and expert Insonate educators we will offer teaching, mentoring, and coaching of learners at various levels. All sessions will be 100% hands-on, practical learning, and live scanning. Practice will include cart-based and/or hand-held ultrasound devices.

Point-of-Care ultrasound (POCUS) is the future of bedside medicine. It has value for every medical professional that performs a physical exam.

POCUS Training Details:

Intro to Cardiac Exam  
Wednesday, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM 
Difficulty Level: Beginner (no experience needed) 
Gain knowledge in lifesaving cardiac exams and learn to identify common cardiac pathologies, with a focus on: pericardial effusions, LV FX, regurgitant valves. This station includes imaging windows, anatomy identification, and entry level assessments.
 
Basic Superficial Exam & Procedure – 2 classes available!  
Wednesday, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM 
Saturday, 12:45 PM - 2:45 PM – For residents and students  
Difficulty Level: Beginner (no experience needed)   
Gain confidence in performing ultrasound needle-guided procedures! This station is suitable for foreign body identification, IV starts, Art lines, needle abscess drainage and more.  

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Exam  
Thursday, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM  
Difficulty Level: Beginner to intermediate (Ideal for those who have minimal to no experience performing ultrasound scans) 
Gain hands-on skills that allow for examination of tendons, bones, and articular surfaces. Build the confidence to interrogate MSK injuries with these dynamic scans and diagnose tears, fluid collections, dislocations and much more.  

E-Fast Exam – 2 classes offered! 
Thursday, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM  
Saturday, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM  
Difficulty Level: Beginner to intermediate (Ideal for those who have minimal to no experience performing ultrasound scans)   
Find Free-Fluid Fast! Build knowledge by learning a foundational and lifesaving POCUS Exam. This station introduces eFAST for accessing blunt trauma and lung pathology: internal hemorrhage, cardiac tamponade, pneumothorax, and hypovolemia.

Pearls Exam  
Friday, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM 
Difficulty Level: Beginner to intermediate (Ideal for those who have minimal to no experience performing ultrasound scans)    
Elevate your clinical practice by augmenting your physical exam with ultrasound technology by learning the PEARL exam: Parasternal, Epigastric, Anterior Lung (and/or Apical). Learn several different POCUS exams on heart, lungs, and abdomen which can be useful to complement physical examinations in offices and inpatient settings.

Cardiology Advanced  
Friday, 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM 
Difficulty Level: Advanced (Existing cardiac scanning skills required)
Refine your cardiac scanning skills with advanced instruction on SWMA, Color and Spectral Doppler assessments, Cardiac Output, MAPSE, TAPSE, EPSS, Diastolic Assessments and other ICU and critical care medicine concepts.
