Charging for Ventilator Management
It is not permissible to bill for ventilator management and an E/M service on the same day. The 1993 Physician Fee Schedule rule stated this clearly. The latest guidance provides that ventilator management and continuous pressure airway management are exclusive of E/EM services, with the exception of critical care services. Since these services are unusual to be provided out of the critical care arena, they should not be billed together.
